About InMemory
Sri Lankan families deserve somewhere better than a group chat.
When someone dies, word still travels here the way it always has — a phone call, a message forwarded ten times, a paper notice pinned near the temple gate. It works, mostly. But it also means people find out too late, cousins abroad miss the service, and the words said at the funeral are never written down anywhere.
Why we built it
InMemory started after one of us missed a grandmother's funeral in Matara by a single day. The notice existed — in a newspaper nobody in the family read that week. There was no link to send, no service time to check, nowhere to leave a message once the day had passed.
So we made one page per person. One link a family can send to everyone at once, with the dates, the places, the photographs and the words people want to say. It stays online afterwards, because grief does not end when the tent comes down.
What we promise
The family decides
Only the family can edit a notice, and no tribute appears until they approve it. If they want the notice gone, it goes, no questions asked.
No advertising on a notice page
We will never put a banner, a sponsored florist or an insurance offer next to somebody's photograph.
Nothing disappears
Notices stay online without a renewal fee, so an anniversary always has somewhere to go.
Your details are yours
Email addresses and phone numbers left with a tribute are never published and never sold.
Free to post, and free to read
Posting a notice on InMemory costs nothing. No word limits, no charge per photograph, no fee to keep a notice online. There is nothing to buy in the middle of the worst week of your life.
In time we will offer paid services to funeral homes — bulk posting, their own branded pages, printed order-of-service design. Families will always be able to do everything on this site for free.
Who we are
A small team in Colombo, working in Sinhala, Tamil and English. We are not a newspaper and not a funeral business — we have no interest in selling you anything at a graveside. If something on this site is wrong, or unkind, or broken, write to us and a person will read it.
Something to tell us?
Corrections, takedown requests, or a difficult question about a notice.
