Following a notice, or the funerals in your home town

Funeral times move — a viewing starts later, a cremation changes venue. Follow the notice and you hear about it on your phone, wherever you are, without having to keep checking.

Following one notice

  1. 1

    Open the notice

Search for the person under Notices, or open the link the family sent you.

  2. 2

    Choose Follow this notice

It sits under the photograph. You need an account; if you are signed out you will be asked to sign in or create one, then choose Follow this notice again.

  3. 3

    Install the app for alerts

Sign in to the InMemory app on your phone with the same account and allow notifications.

Only published notices can be followed. Everything you follow is listed under Following in your account, with the next event on each one and a note if you have left a tribute. Choose Stop following there, or Unfollow this notice on the notice, whenever you like.

What you are told, and when

Alerts are notifications from the InMemory mobile app, on a phone signed in to your account. We do not email you when arrangements change, so if you only use the website, the notice itself is the place to check.

You are told when

A public event's date, time or venue changes, an event is added or removed, or the family changes where the person is laid to rest.

You are not told when

The photograph or the wording of the notice changes, a tribute is approved, or something private to the family changes.

We look for changes every fifteen minutes and put them together, so a family correcting three events at once sends you one notification, not three. Arrangement alerts are on for every notice you follow; choose Turn arrangement alerts off beside a notice under Following to keep it on your list without being told.

Following a town or district

If you want to know when someone from home has died — not just one person — follow the place instead. Under Following, open Your towns and districts, choose Town or District, and search for it.

  • Follow as many towns and districts as you like. A district covers every town in it.
  • You hear about notices published after you followed the place, each one once.
  • Alerts come through the app and are grouped into one notification an hour.
  • Without the app, the same funerals are listed under Following whenever you look.
  • Choose Stop following area to end the alerts for a place.

Private events never give a place away

A notice only counts towards an area through a public event held there. Events the family keeps private, and events that show a venue name only, are never used to place a notice in a town.

Remembering the anniversary

Turn on Anniversary reminders on your profile and we send a quiet email at 8:00 am, one week before the anniversary of anyone whose notice you follow or look after. It is off until you choose it.

Who can see what you follow

Nobody but you. The family is not told who follows their notice and cannot see a list or a count. If the notice is taken down, it drops off your Following list and the alerts stop.
